How to Fix a Knitted Scarf With Crochet

A knitted scarf consists of yarn woven into a shape. The threads at the end of a yarn scarf can separate and begin to fray. To repair the scarf and prevent further fraying, crochet the end using darning needles. Some experience in crocheting will be helpful but is not a requirement.

Instructions

    • 1

Measured the frayed length of the scarf. Cut a piece of yarn twice the length of the measurement taken, plus 1 inch added.

    • 2

Push the end of a darning needle through the left side of the scarf, 1/8 inch in from the end and 1/2 inch above the frayed end. Remove the needle and run the end of the crochet hook halfway through the hole.

    • 3

Place the folded end of the yarn over the crochet hook. Push the crochet hook through the scarf until the folded end of the yarn is on the other side.

    • 4

Pull the ends of the yarn around the left edge of the scarf and through the folded loop. Fluff the knot with your fingers.

    • 5

Position the darning needle 1/8 inch to the right of the hole you just made. Repeat this entire procedure with the darning needle, crochet hook and yarn until you reach the right side of the scarf. Tie a knot in the remaining ends of the yarn.
