How to Import BZX55C Zener Diodes From 2V to 75V

A Zener diode is a component of an electrical circuit with two leads that are used to maintain a constant voltage of electrical current. To import the voltage from 2V to 75V Zener diodes, you need to use two or more Zener diodes that are connected together in a series. You can do this using resistors with a type of circuit board known as a solderless breadboard.

Things You'll Need

  • 22-gauge electrical wire
  • Tape measure
  • Wire cutters
  • Wire strippers
  • 2V Zener diode
  • Solderless breadboard
  • 1/4-watt resistor
  • DC power supply

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the 22-gauge electrical wire with the tape measure. Cut two 12-inch lengths of wire using the wire cutters. Strip 1/2-inch of insulation from each end of each wire with the wire strippers.

    • 2

Insert the leads of a Zener diode into the solderless breadboard. Place each lead into an unused column in the breadboard.

    • 3

Place the lead of a 1/4-watt resistor into the breadboard. This lead needs to connect to the anode lead of the Zener diode. Insert a Zener diode into the breadboard so that the cathode lead touches the other end of the resistor. Repeat this step to attach three to four Zener diodes and resistors to the breadboard.

    • 4

Attach one end of the other 12-inch wire to the cathode lead of the Zenor diode. Connect the other end of the wire to the positive terminal on the DC power supply.

    • 5

Turn on the DC power supply and turn the knob to adjust the voltage. Set the knob on the multimeter to the ̶0;DC Volts̶1; option.

    • 6

Place the red-colored probe on the multimeter to the wire on the cathode lead of the Zener diode. Place the black-colored probe to the wire on the end of the resistor. Read the voltage that is displayed on the multimeter.
