Things You'll Need
Instructions
Assemble the miniature according to the manufacturer's instructions, if it did not come pre-assembled. Smooth over any imperfections caused by the manufacturing process with a hobby knife. Use a strong hobby glue, such as epoxy, to hold the miniature together.
Spray the miniature with a primer. Matte primer is best for miniatures because you lose smaller details when using a glossy primer. Apply several light layers and allow each to dry in a well-ventilated space before applying a new coat.
Paint the main layer of the miniature using a light-colored paint. Use an acrylic hobby paint with a size 0 brush and add several light layers instead of one thick layer. Allow the paint to dry each time adding a new layer.
Paint the details of your miniature, starting from the lightest color to the darkest, using a size 000 brush.
Create an ink wash by adding water to a dark-colored paint, such as black or dark blue. Lightly brush the watered-down paint over the entire surface of the miniature. Allow the miniature to dry completely. When dry, the dark color will seep into the crevices of the miniature, which allows the detail to be more visible.
Paint the highlights onto your miniature, using a dry brush. Apply a small amount of white paint to a dry size 0 brush and then dab inside a paper towel until almost all of the paint is gone. Lightly brush the paint over the raised surfaces of the miniature and allow the paint to dry to accentuate the highlights.
Apply sealer to the miniature when you are satisfied with its appearance to prevent the paint from chipping or peeling. Use several light layers, allowing time for the paint to dry before adding a new layer.
