Health Effects
Pinacyanol chloride is a compound that is available for research use. When working with this compound, a dust respirator, gloves and safety glasses are required. If any of the compound comes into contact with the skin it may cause inflammation and a flare up of pre-existing dermatitis. Eye irritation can occur and respiratory problems may develop when inhaled.
Accidental Release
When a spill occurs it needs to be cleaned immediately. A spill needs to be cleaned without spreading dust residue to other areas. Sweep up material from the floor into a dust pan and transfer to a sealable plastic refuse container that is properly labeled.
Handling the Material
Once work has begun with the material you should not eat, drink or smoke. When the material is not in use it should be kept in a sealed container that is properly secured. Once the work has been finished, you will need to wash your hand with soap and water. Keep your work clothes from your street clothes when laundering. Make sure that your work clothes are laundered before they are worn again.
Building Control
Exhaust systems that are used when working with pinacyanol chloride need to prevent recirculation of material particles and any accumulation. When dust respirators are used they may need to be combined with a absorption cartridge to contain dust particles. This will require using filters that are the right type for the respirator. To prevent the build-up of an electrostatic charge of the dust particles, proper bonding and grounding is required.
