How to Build a Double Bar Three-Point Hitch Planter

You can build a double bar 3-point hitch planter by attaching a double bar 3-point hitch to the frame of a two-row planter attachment for a tractor. Attaching a 3-point hitch onto a two-row planter requires the use of a bracket. This can be done by using a clamping plate which allows you to easily disconnect your planter if the hitch needs to be used for another purpose.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Clamping plate
  • Bolts
  • Standard wrench
  • Socket wrench

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance between the support brackets for the 3-point hitch with the tape measure. Make a note of this measurement.

    • 2

Measure the width at the front of the double bar planter frame. Make a note of this measurement. Mark the location for the 3-point hitch brackets on the frame with the felt tip marker.

    • 3

Place a clamping plate over the frame on one of your marks. Mark the location of the bolt holes on the clamping plate. Drill holes for the mounting bolts using the power drill. Mark and drill mounting holes on the other mark on the frame.

    • 4

Align the mounting holes on the clamping plates with the holes in the frame. Inset a bolt into each hole and then hand tighten a nut. Tighten the nut with a standard wrench and a socket wrench.

    • 5

Position the bracket for the 3-point hitch over the clamping plates. Place a U-bolt over the brackets and hand tighten a nut. Tighten the nuts onto each of the U-bolts fully with the wrench.
