How to Put DC Cheater Together

The DC Cheater is a Full Wave Welding Rectifier that is provided by Proto-Power, Inc. You can use the device when AC welding by adjusting the amperage setting of your AC welder. However, you must not exceed the amperage rating of the DC Cheater unit. Your DC Cheater operates by rectifying the current that travels through the ground cable and to the electrode holder for the AC welder. Assembling the DC Cheater involves preparing the cable connectors.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location for your DC Cheater. Measure the distance from this location to the AC welder by using the tape measure. Make a note of this measurement.

    • 2

Transfer the measurement you noted in the previous step to the electrical cables. Cut both cables to this length with the wire cutters. Make sure that you have enough electrical cable to connect to all the studs on the DC Cheater.

    • 3

Attach the cable lugs to the ends of each cable, by crimping the cable lugs onto each cable using pliers or the crimping tool. Verify that the lugs will fit the studs on the DC Cheater.

    • 4

Measure the distance from the lug on the end of each cable and the metal on the DC Cheater. You need to have at least 3/4 inch of clearance. You can gain additional clearance by bending the end of the lugs, by placing them in the bench vice.

    • 5

Tighten, by hand, a wing nut onto the stud used for the first cable on the DC Cheater. Connect the second cable to your DC Cheater.
