How to Film Snowboarding by Yourself

Technological advances in digital filming equipment make it possible to film snowboarding without the aid of an assistant or production crew. Helmet cameras attach to your ski helmet and record the action from your point of view. You also can hold the camera and film snowboarders while standing near a run. Learning the basics of filming snowboarding by yourself allows you to record a variety of shots and sequences that might be compiled into a film for home or online viewing.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge the helmet camera battery with the provided charger the day before you plan to film. Become familiar with attaching the camera to your ski helmet as described in the provided instructions.

    • 2

Put on your helmet and move your head quickly in all directions to ensure the camera is securely attached. Become familiar with the location and function of the ̶0;On/Off̶1; switch on the camera. Make sure the camera is switched off until it̵7;s time to start filming.

    • 3

Find a modest slope with several small jumps. Take a position at the top of the slope. Put on your ski boots and secure your feet in the snowboard bindings. Put on your helmet with the attached camera and securely fasten the helmet straps.

    • 4

Switch the camera on and start down the slope. Look down to film your board and the toes of your boots as you travel. Look straight ahead to film an oncoming jump and your landing. Look directly at another snowboarder to record his actions.

    • 5

Take off your helmet and detach the camera for hand-held filming. Find a location that affords a full view of a jump or tricky section on a slope. Use the viewer on the camera to follow and film another snowboarder going over the jump or through the tricky section.
