Adding More Elastic to a Half Wig

If your half wig does not have adjustable straps you can add more elastic to make it fit around your head. When the wig cap fits adequately but the wig is not sitting the way you like it, an adjustment is necessary. To do this, an alteration will need to be made to the wig. Once finished, the wig should fit on your head more comfortably.

Things You'll Need

Ruler
Scissors
Elastic strip
Needle
Thread
Hair spray

Instructions

  Lay the wig open on a table or desk. Measure 1 inch up on the back of the wig with your ruler.

  Insert a pin into the wig at the 1-inch location. Split the wig from the bottom up to the pin by using the scissors. Make sure you do not cut the welt or you will need to finish the cut edges. The welt is the seam used create a flat finish.

  Remove the pin and place a strip of elastic along the split. Secure the elastic to each side of the split by using a needle and thread.

  Position the hair on the back of the wig to make sure that it adequately covers the seam. Use hair spray to keep the hair in place, if necessary.
