DIY Borescope

A borescope is a type of device that is used to look inside of small spaces such as a pipe or the inside of a wall. To make your own borescope you will need a light source for use with a fiber optic cable. You will use a LED light for this purpose. Making your own borescope can be done by using equipment with a camera that is already mounted in place.

Things You'll Need

Endoscope
Bronchia scope
Tape measure
Fiber optic bundle
LED light
Heat shrink tubing
Heat gun
Hair dryer
Television

Instructions

  Measure the length of your endoscope or bronchia scope with the tape measure. Note the measurement and then measure a matching length of fiber optic cable. Cut the fiber optic cable to this length with the wire cutters.

  Attach a LED light onto one end of a fiber optic cable. When the LED light is powered on, the other end of the fiber optic cable is illuminated. Use a small section of heat shrink tubing to secure the LED light to the end of the fiber optic cable. You can also attach a mini-flashlight.

  Place heat shrink tubing around the endoscope and fiber optic cable. Heat the tubing with a heat gun or use a hair dryer.

  Apply power to the LED light and you will see the other end illuminate. Plug the end of the endoscope into the input port on the television. You are now ready to use your new borescope.
