Instructions
Place a plastic tarp on the ground outside. Place the cardboard box on the tarp with the flapped end facing up. Open the flaps so that you can see inside the box.
Shake a can of waterproof sealant for 20 seconds to mix the contents. Spray the inside of the box with the waterproof sealant. Spray the inside of the flaps with the waterproof sealant. Let the sealant set for the amount of time specified in the instructions. Reapply another coating of the waterproof sealant to the inside of the box and to the inside of the flaps.
Close the flaps at the top of the box. Run duct tape along the seams where the flaps meet. Shake the can of waterproof sealant for 20 seconds and spray the top of the box. Let the sealant set for the amount of time specified in the instructions and reapply another coating.
Turn the box over. Shake a can of waterproof sealant for 20 seconds and spray the bottom and sides of the box. Let the sealant set and reapply another coating.
Rotate the box so that one end is facing you. Draw an outline in the end that is 6 inches wide and 10 inches high. Cut out the outline with a hand saw. Pull the cut cardboard out and dispose of it.
Sand the inside edges of the doorway you have made with medium-grit sandpaper until they are smooth. Wipe the inside edges free of dust with a water-moistened paper towel
Shake the can of waterproof sealant for 20 seconds and spray the inside cut edges. Let the sealant set and reapply another coating.
Place the nest box you have made in the area where the chickens are to roost. Fill the floor about 2 inches deep with straw. Place a horizontal cinder block under each corner of the box to raise it off the ground. Angle the rough wood plank against the floor so that one end is up against the doorway, enabling the chickens to walk up into the nest.
