How to Make a Hurricane Wind Tunnel Rotating Eye

A hurricane is a force of nature that can reach awesome speeds and release torrents of rain, wreaking destruction for miles upon miles. From the air it looks like a particularly thick doughnut ring, with the "eye" of the hurricane being the hole. On a computer, you can create your own animated Graphics Interchange Format, or GIF, of a hurricane in a wind tunnel, and use it for personal projects, such as an online programming portfolio, or place it on a school website for educational purposes.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice drawing a hurricane in a wind tunnel from a bird̵7;s eye view, using a program such as MS Paint. Draw a series of bird̵7;s-eye-view hurricanes in a sequence, like in a flipbook. Save all the pictures. When viewed in order the hurricane should appear to rotate.

    • 2

Start up the program for making animated GIF images. Learn the different tools available to you in the program. Use the instructions in the program to make an animated GIF out of the hurricane images.

    • 3

Isolate how fast you want the hurricane to rotate by adjusting the speed of the animated GIF, via the GIF-making program. Once you have discovered a speed you like, save the animated GIF.

Test how your animated hurricane in a wind tunnel GIF appears in different browsers and see how it runs. An animated GIF may display differently depending on the browser on which it is being viewed.
