How to Attach a Propeller to a Small Hobby Motor

Hobby motors are not limited to radio controlled cars or other devices. It is possible to conduct experiments or simply modify these motors for your own amusement. Propellers, for example can be placed on a hobby motor, even if the motor is not designed for that purpose. Whether you are a hobbyist exploring the technical capabilities of your motor, or a student demonstrating this function for a science experiment, it is important that you understand the process to ensure success.

Instructions

    • 1

Strip the insulation from the wire ends. Your motor will have two wires. Carefully close your scissors around the plastic wire covering and strip off approximately 0.5 inch.

    • 2

Place one of the exposed copper wires onto one of the propeller block's connectors. Repeat this step for the other wire.

    • 3

Cut two 0.25 inch pieces of electrical tape with your scissors.

    • 4

Cut a three inch piece of electrical tape using your scissors.

    • 5

Fasten the copper wire. Use your two small pieces of electrical tape to fasten each copper wire to the connectors respectively.

    • 6

Place the propeller onto the motor's drive stem.

    • 7

Fasten the propeller. Use the 3-inch-long piece of electrical tape to attach the propeller block onto the motor.

    • 8

Place the AA batteries into the motor. The propeller should automatically begin to spin. The process is now complete.
