Things You'll Need
Instructions
Detach any protruding hardware, such as boat storage handles, from the decking area with a screwdriver. Hardware removal will prevent obstacles during carpet installation.
Make sure that the deck is dry and free from any debris, such as old carpet glue. Scrape any debris off with a scraper tool and vacuum the entire decking.
Roll out enough craft paper to cover a portion of the jon boat's decking. Tape the paper down to the boat's decking with masking tape.
Conform the paper to the deck's curves by pressing it down with your hands. Indicate the deck's edges and curves on the paper with a pencil. This pencil tracing will become the deck's template for the carpet.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the remaining deck portions, depending on the jon boat size.
Place the paper template on the carpet's underside, attaching it with masking tape. Cut the carpet with a utility knife by following the traced paper template.
Place glue on a trowel and smooth the adhesive to the clean jon boat decking. Make sure that the glue is evenly applied across the surface.
Lay the carpet across the wet glue. Smooth the carpet out by using a rolling pin. Move the rolling pin from the deck's center to the edges. Remove any glue that leaks from the carpet's edges with a damp cloth. Allow the carpet to dry completely before taking the boat out on the water.
