Instructions
Place a sheet of white paper horizontally on a table in front of you. Measure up the length of the paper on the left side and make a mark on the edge at the halfway point. Measure across the paper from the mark and make a dot on the paper at the halfway mark.
Measure 1 inch out from each side and the top and bottom of the dot. Make a dot at each of these measurements.
Write the title of the essay on the dot at the center of the paper. Write four main points that the essay should cover at each of the dots surrounding the title. Draw a bubble, or a circle, around the text written on the paper.
Measure 1 inch up from the dot farthest from you. Measure 1 inch to the left and right of this measurement and make a dot. Draw a bubble around each dot.
Measure 1 inch left from the dot closest to the left side of the paper. Measure 1 inch up and 1 inch down from the dot and make new dots at these measurements. Draw a bubble around each dot.
Measure 1 inch down from the dot closest to you. Measure 1 inch to the left and right of this measurement and make a dot. Draw a bubble around each dot.
Measure 1 inch right from the dot closest to the right side of the paper. Measure 1 inch up and down from the dot and make new dots at these measurements. Draw a bubble around each dot.
Draw a line with a green-colored pencil from each the three horizontal bubbles farthest from you to the bubble 1 inch up from the center dot. Draw a line with a blue-colored pencil from each of the three vertical bubbles farthest at the left to the bubble directly to their right.
Draw a line with a yellow-colored pencil from each of the three vertical bubbles farthest at the right to the bubble directly to their left. Draw a line with an orange-colored pencil from each of the three horizontally bubbles closest to you to the bubble that's 1 inch down from the center dot.
Write a thought in each bubble connected by a line to one the bubbles surrounding the center dot that relates to what's written in the bubble.
Write down the progression of bubbles as they're connected on a sheet of ruled paper, one line at a time. Rearrange the lines to put together the outline for your essay.
