How to Build a Dirt Track for a Quadrajet

Resistant to level changes caused by the unevenness of off-road Quadrajet carburetors are perfect for off-road racing. If you have a dirt-track racer fitted with one you're halfway to success. The other thing you need is a dirt track with the tough cornering and surfacing the Quadrajet cars love. The best way to ensure that is to build your own. While it won't come cheap -- requiring equipment such as a tractor, a compactor and a tiller, and an area large to build your track on -- it will be well worth the effort.

Things You'll Need

  • Tractor digger
  • Peg markers
  • Shovel

Instructions

    • 1

Decide exactly where you want and where can make your dirt track. For the best racing, the track should be relatively flat. Do you want the dirt to be clay or soil? Do you need planning permission to make your track? Make sure you leave no loose ends, or they could cause you problems later on.

    • 2

Design your track. There are many things to consider: for example, the sharpness of the corners and the length of the straights. Remember, your track has to be big enough for two dirt track vehicles to pass. If you are thinking about inviting people to watch, you will have to work out where they can stand.

    • 3

Measure out your track, placing your pegs on the inside and outside of the track so you know exactly where to dig.

    • 4

Dig up the earth within your track area with your tractor digger.

    • 5

Remove any debris from the area with your shovel. This requires time and patience, but is important factor in making sure your track runs smoothly. If the removal of anything leaves a hole, fill it in with loose dirt.

    • 6

Work the dirt over with the tiller.

    • 7

Go over the dirt with a compactor. This will help flatten it out.

    • 8

Drive your Quadrajet car around the track as many times as possible before you use it for a competition. This will further flatten and smooth out the track.
