Improvised Art Studio
If the church has large windows, use it as an art studio. Find out where the best light is during the day in each part of the church, and make a list that states when each room is at its best. Set up your work in the first room, and when the light progresses away from that room, move to the next.
Photography Project
Use the abandoned church as a photographic subject. Take a camera to the church, making sure that it has film or enough space in its memory for a long shoot. Study both its interior and exterior at different times of the day and at different angles. As time progresses through the day, take pictures of the parts of the church you find the most interesting. Repeat this at different times of the year. Alternately, after studying the church, use it as a backdrop for a photo shoot of your friends.
Renovation
Make a list of what you would like to turn the abandoned church into -- such as a professional studio, house, restaurant, community center, or even renovate it as a church. Hire someone to assess what needs to be fixed up in the church. With this report, figure a budget for fixing it up, including whether or not there is anything that you could do on your own to save money. If necessary, hire workers to complete the renovation. Once complete, enjoy your renovated church. Alternately, instead of hiring someone, make the renovation a
community project.
Film Location
An abandoned church fits a range of genres for your next student movie, including a supernatural thriller, western, post-apocalyptic sci-fi or adventure, or even fantasy. With the right touches, an abandoned church can be presented as part of a ghost town or a ̶0;temple̶1; in a fantastical realm. Go with your friends to assess what you want to keep the same or alter, and proceed to work with constructing the alternations and choreographing the scene or scenes in the church.
