How to Put a Keene Highbanker Together

A high banker, or power sluice, is used to separate gold from sand and gravel. With any sluice, amateur gold prospectors shovel sand and gravel they believe may contain gold into a sluice ̶0;box̶1; or ̶0;hopper,̶1; and then wash away the lighter particles with running water to concentrate the heavier elements. Conventional sluices use a stream current to wash gold-bearing sediments. High bankers, which are smaller and easier to use than conventional sluices, use a pressurized stream of water to accomplish the same thing.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the four legs to the sluice box and hopper assembly using the four large wing nuts included with the high banker.

    • 2

Attach the 10-foot-long pressure hose included with the high banker to the coupling on the highest side of the sluice hopper using the hose coupling and hose clamp included with the sluice. Tighten the hose clamp with a flathead screwdriver.

    • 3

Attach a 1 1/4-inch hose coupling to the end of the pressure hose using a hose clamp and a flathead screwdriver.

    • 4

Insert a 1 1/4-inch pipe nipple into the end of the 1 1/4-inch hose coupling. Slip a 1 1/4-inch to 1 1/2-inch Bell reducer over the 1 1/4-inch pipe nipple. Slide a 1 1/2-inch pipe nipple over the 1 1/2-inch end of the Bell reducer.

    • 5

Secure the Bell reducer assembly to the lay-flat, 1 1/2-inch hose with a 1 1/2-inch hose coupling and a hose clamp. Tighten the hose clamp with a flathead screwdriver.

    • 6

Slide the 1 1/2 inch Bell reducer and pipe-nipple assembly over the outlet on the engine and pump assembly. Connect the Bell reducer and pipe-nipple assembly to the open end of the lay-flat, 1 1/2 inch hose with a 1 1/2-inch hose coupling and a hose clamp. Tighten the hose clamp with a flathead screwdriver.
