Things You'll Need
Instructions
Decide on a spot to put your track. You'll need a room at least 10 feet by 12 feet or a flat, even outside area of the same size, such as a deck or patio.
Lay out the carpet squares to cover the area of your track. The size is up to you, but it should be at least 10 feet by 10 feet for small RC vehicles, and larger for larger ones.
Sketch the track you want on paper. This could be a simple dual-track oval or a more complicated figure 8.
Measure the actual track area you'll be using within your carpeted layout. Get the appropriate amount of plastic pipe, along with semicircular connectors, to form your layout. PVC water pipe, which is about an inch in diameter, is appropriate for small cars; you'll need larger pipe if you are using larger cars. These will be the bumpers that keep your cars on the track. If you are making dual tracks, they should be 10 inches wide for small cars, 33 inches wide for medium-size cars and 44 inches wide for large vehicles.
Lay out the pipe in a rough outline of the shape you want. Cut pipe with the saw to the correct length where necessary, leaving about 1 inch extra on ends that will plug into connectors on curves.
Glue the pipe to the carpeting to form the outline of your track. Do this piece by piece, plugging them into connectors when necessary before gluing the next piece, to ensure they will fit correctly. Use the ruler to make sure all lines are straight.
Glue a second line of pipe on the inside line of your track, paralleling the outer one. If you are building a dual-lane track, glue another line of pipe in the middle of the track.
Allow the glue to dry according to manufacturer's directions.
