How to Open Cylinder Combination Locks

A standard four number cylinder combination lock has more than 12,000 different locking combinations. The lock has four separate numbered barrels that range from one to eight and mount on the lock cylinder. When you select the correct combination of numbers, you can pull the notched pin out of the cylinder. The process on how to open the cylinder combination lock is straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

      Rotate the barrel located to the left of the lock cylinder until the number on the barrel that reflects the first number in your four-digit code lines up with the indicator arrow on the left end of the lock cylinder.

      Rotate the barrel directly to the right of the first barrel until the number on the barrel that reflects the second number in your four-digit code lines up with the indicator arrow.

      Rotate the third barrel until the number on the barrel that reflects the third number in your four-digit code lines up with the indicator arrow.

      Rotate the fourth barrel until the number on the barrel that reflects the fourth number in your four-digit code lines up with the indicator arrow.

      Pull the notched pin straight out of the lock cylinder.
