Things You'll Need
Instructions
Roll the clay into the body parts of the monkey. Make a body, arms, legs, head, tail and ears. Keep the parts small or your earrings may be too large to wear comfortably.
Make the accent pieces. Using clay colors of your choice, make a contrasting piece for the monkey's tummy, the insides of the ears, the eyes and the mouth. These pieces will lend a more life-like appearance to your monkey earrings.
Attach the head, the arms and the legs to the body of the monkey. Put the ears on the head and the tail at the back of the monkey's body. Add the eyes, tummy piece, mouth and the insides of the ears. Press the pieces together firmly, which will help them hold together better after baking.
Open the loop at the bottom of the hook and slide it through the monkey where desired. Putting it through the head will help the monkey hang evenly. Close the loop. An alternative is to use post and back earrings and stick them firmly into the back of the clay monkeys.
Place the monkey earrings on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil. Follow the baking directions on the package of clay you are using. The different brands vary in temperature requirements with a range of 215 degrees Fahrenheit to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and amount of time needed to finish the earrings varies as well. Allow the clay monkeys to cool and harden completely before wearing.
