Things You'll Need
Instructions
Unplug any connections made to an appliance or other electrical device from the generator. Remove the gas cap and verify that there is gas in the tank.
Fill the gas tank if it is empty. If the generator has not been used for 6 months or more, dump out any gas in the tank into a plastic container.
Examine the primer bulb on the generator. The primer bulb is used to transfer gas from the fuel tank to the carburetor. If the primer bulb is cracked, it will not longer work. Replace the cracked primer bulb with a new part.
Pry off the primer bulb assembly with the flathead screwdriver. Replace the primer bulb and then press the primer assembly back into place.
Pull the spark plug wire off of the tip of the spark plug. Remove the spark plug from the engine using a spark plug wrench. Tighten, by hand, a new spark plug it its place. Securely tighten the new spark plug with the spark plug wrench. Press the spark plug wire onto the tip of the spark plug.
Remove the screw that is securing the air filter cover with the Phillips screwdriver. Take the cover off and set it aside. Pull out and examine the air filter to see if it is dirty. Replace a dirty air filter with a new one. Set the air filter cover back in place and tighten the screw.
