How to Make a Puppet Move With a Popsicle

Place one of the two Popsicle sticks horizontally on a work surface. Measure the length of the Popsicle stick with a ruler and make a dot at the halfway mark. Make a 1/2 inch deep notch in each end of the stick with the point of a utility knife. Repeat this entire procedure with the other Popsicle stick.

Place a glob of white glue on the dot on one of the Popsicle sticks lying horizontally on the work surface. Hold the other Popsicle stick vertically. Place the Popsicle stick on the one that is on the work surface so that the two dots line up. Press the sticks together and hold them down for two minutes to let the glue adhere. Let the glue dry for an hour before proceeding.

Tie a single knot in the end of each string connected to the puppet. Run the end of the string connected to the puppet̵7;s left hand through the notch on the far end of the Popsicle stick that is lying vertically on the work surface. Repeat this procedure with the end of the string connected to the puppet̵7;s right hand, only through the notch on the near end of the stick that is lying vertically.

Run the end of the string connected to the puppet̵7;s left foot through the notch on the left end of the stick that is lying horizontally on the table. Repeat this procedure with the end of the string connected to the puppet̵7;s right foot, only through the notch on the right end of the stick that is lying horizontally.

Hold the sticks high enough to raise the puppet off the ground. Lower the sticks until the puppet̵7;s feet touch the ground. Raise and lower the strings connected to the Popsicle sticks to move the puppet̵7;s hands and feet.
