How to Oil Your Go-Kart's Clutch

The clutch on your go-kart allows you to shift gears while driving. Because of the role that the clutch plays in the mechanics of your go-kart, clutches tend to wear out after prolonged use. You can extend the life of the clutch by oiling it. A go-kart clutch should be oiled once for every two hours of drive time. This means that you should not use the go-kart for more than two hours at a time before you stop to oil it.

Park your go-kart after it has been operated for two hours. Pull the go-kart into a garage or some other area where you can safely work with it. Act quickly, because the go-kart must be oiled while it is still warm.

Turn your go-kart's engine off. Oil the clutch near the snap ring, which is located on the end of the clutch. Do not put the oil into the holes under or around the clutch, as the holes in the drum are meant to allow hot air out of the clutch and oiling them may cause a malfunction.

Clean the chain off in preparation for oiling. Make sure to remove any sand, dirt or other matter, as this can cause the chain to kink, which will cause the go-kart to malfunction. The chain should always be oiled when the clutch is oiled. Make sure to get a good coating of oil along the length of the chain to prevent kinks.
