Read
The dramatic weather can be the perfect backdrop for catching up on reading, particularly a moody gothic novel. Stacks of magazines and newspapers may have been piling up in the corner waiting for you to retrieve them for just this occasion. Don̵7;t forget your online opportunities. Unless the weather is so bad your power or Internet connection is down, this is the perfect time to surf your favorite online publications and blogs guilt-free.
Socialize
Invite a friend over or catch up on correspondence. If you have Thank You notes to write, now is your opportunity. Socialize via the Web if no one wants to brave the weather for a visit. Start a chat room online or initiate some instant messaging with one of your online friends. And, there̵7;s always the telephone. Phone a friend in a sunnier part of the country and live vicariously through him.
Watch TV/DVDs
Assuming your power isn̵7;t out, cloudy, rainy days are perfect for watching TV and movies. There̵7;s no sun casting a glare on the screen and the falling rain provides a cozy ambient sound. If you have a rented movie you̵7;ve been waiting to watch, now is your chance. Or just click on the tube and see what the networks offer.
Cook
It̵7;s fun to cook when it̵7;s raining, particularly comfort foods that will ward off the gloominess of the weather. Soup, muffins, macaroni and cheese ̵1; pull out some old favorite recipes or take this opportunity to try some new ones. Come up with a recipe using most of the old ingredients you have lying around. Bake some cookies and be a hero to others in the household who are depressed by the weather.
Exercise
If you̵7;re sad that it̵7;s raining because you̵7;re missing your sports match, take some time to exercise indoors. If you have a treadmill, you̵7;re set. Crank up the radio and log on 30 minutes or so for some cardio. If the weather really has you stressed out, now might be a great opportunity to check out your new yoga DVD. There are also a few online websites that offer free exercise videos if you don't already own one. Other indoor exercise ideas include jumping rope, push-ups, sit-ups or a rowdy game of tug-of-war with the dog.
Venture Out
Just because it̵7;s raining, doesn̵7;t mean you̵7;re stuck in the house. Take the car (or bus, or subway) to the nearest mall and do some window shopping. Perhaps there̵7;s a movie you̵7;ve wanted to see or a new restaurant to check out. Those feeling bold and adventurous might consider karaoke or a roller rink -- indoor activities that will get you out of the house.
