How to Troubleshoot the SCM Basic One Edgebander

If you wish to purchase a SCMI Basic One Edgebander then you are looking, conservatively, at paying around $4,500 -- so it is vital that you don't become bogged down with irritating problems that make this tool a pricey obligation. When it is working properly, this unit will allow you to easily attach adhesive-backed, hot-melt veneer edging to straight edges, saving time and effort as a carpenter or other worker, and if you are aware of troubleshooting steps then there is no reason why the unit shouldn't stay free of problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the plug connection if there is no power being supplied to the tool and ensure that the circuit breaker has not tripped -- if the latter is the case, reset the breaker and turn on the machine.

    • 2

Replace the fuse if it has blown. A blown fuse means the motor in the unit will be unable to start, and replacing this component should bring the tool back to working order.

    • 3

Increase the temperature on the temperature dial toward the red section. This will fix the fairly common problem of a lack of heat coming through the Edge Bander. You may also have to replace the hot air gun in order to solve this problem.

    • 4

Reduce the feed rate or increase the heat level if the edge banding material will not bond
to the workpiece. This is often due to feed rate being too fast for the heat level; either of these steps should solve that issue.
