How to Add Graphite to Conductive Silicone

Conductive silicone adhesive is a type of adhesive that will carry an electrical current. These adhesives are often used in electric circuits and similar objects where adhesive is necessary, but you need current to pass through. Graphite is a conductive material as well. Adding it to silicone adhesive will make the adhesive even more conductive. Just keep in mind that since graphite particles are large, the added conductivity might be unreliable.

Things You'll Need

  • Conductive silicone adhesive
  • Small container
  • Graphite powder
  • Stirring stick
  • Circuit board
  • Small circuits

Instructions

    • 1

Pour about one-quarter cup of adhesive into a small cup.

    • 2

Add about two tablespoons of graphite powder to the mix. Stir the graphite into the adhesive with a stirring stick until the mixture is smooth and completely mixed.

    • 3

Add more graphite powder or glue, as necessary, to create a creamy mixture that does not contain lumps.

    • 4

Test the conductivity of the graphite and silicone adhesive by painting a small amount onto a circuit board. Connect a test circuit to both sides of the adhesive to test whether the adhesive can carry the current. Add more powder if the connectivity is too weak. When you are happy with the ratios, use the same ratios for future batches.
