Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure the width across the top and bottom of your applique design. Measure the length of your applique design. Measure out enough fusible web to cover these dimensions.
Cut the amount of fusible web that you require to cover the applique design. Lay the fusible web on the applique so the side of the web that has the paper backing is facing you.
Iron the paper backing to bind the web to your applique.
Peel the paper backing off and cut the edges off of the design until the shape of your applique stands alone without any excess fabric.
Position the applique where you want to place it on the shirt. Iron the top side of the applique to hold it in place on the fabric of the shirt.
Set your sewing machine to a zigzag stitch. Select the width of the stitch according to the size of the applique and the shirt fabric. Choose more narrow settings for small appliques or shirts with tightly woven fabric and wider stitches for large appliques or more loosely woven shirt fabrics.
Position the applique under the presser foot of your sewing machine with the edge of the applique 1/4 inch away from the needle. Machine-stitch the applique in place, pivoting the design and turning the fabric to sew along the corners as needed.
Go over the first five stitches and then reverse stitch five stitches. This prevents the thread from unraveling. Trim off any trailing thread close to the fabric.
