How to Troubleshoot a Linear Multicode

A multicode remote control system uses a transmitter and a receiver -- both plugged into the same channel using a specified code -- to control door entry systems, such as garages. Linear boasts that their remote control systems will give you "years of dependable service without adjustment," however, it is inevitable that, over its lifetime, the system will require troubleshooting, and you can be ready with a little preparation.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect all power from your unit before carrying out checks. Only switch the power back on when the troubleshooting of a step calls for it.

    • 2

Use a fastening compound -- Linear recommend Loctite -- to seal the mounting screws on the receiver if you are suffering from excess vibration. This sealant will give the mount more security.

    • 3

Ensure that the antenna is connected to the receiver if the multicode appears to be malfunctioning and not sending a signal.

    • 4

Ensure that power is being supplied to the unit. Check that it is securely connected to a 115-volt power supply and the breaker has not tripped.

    • 5

Mount the antenna in a more favorable location -- such as one away from blockages of metallic objects -- using the coaxial kit supplied. This should fix the problem of an impeded signal ruining operation.
