How to Repair a Mitutoyo Measuring Instrument

Mitutoyo produces advanced measurement tools, which are often essential for people working within the construction industry and using parameters of a matter of millimeters. With electronic measuring machines of such fine margins, some issues can occur that need attention. Complex internal problems should be fixed only by an expert, but there are steps you can take to troubleshoot your Mitutoyo yourself.

  Check that the circuit breaker has not tripped. Reset it to restore power to the unit.

  Inspect the cables. Make sure they are properly plugged into the correct sockets. Ensure that they are not frayed or damaged. Replace damaged cables in order to remedy problems with no -- or intermittent -- power.

  Check that the scale unit is installed in the machine properly. Re-install, as outlined in the user manual, if necessary. This will usually resolve any failure to obtain rated accuracy.

  Connect the signal input connector of the scale unit properly. This will usually stop miscounts. Also make sure the unit is grounded properly.

  Wipe away any dust or debris from the vents of the machine with a damp cloth. Such obstructions could potentially cause the unit to overheat and cease performance. A small amount of detergent can be used for stubborn dirt, but refrain from using benzine, alcohol, thinner or a chemically treated cloth.
