How to Convert Series 70 to Series 80

During the years of 1970 to 1983, the Colt Company manufactured series 70 government pistols; since 1983, however, series 80 pistols have been adopted for use by the U.S. government. The series 70 and 80 pistols closely resemble the original M1911 pistols that were manufactured by Colt in 1911. The owner of a series 70 pistol can convert his weapon to a series 80 pistol through the use of a tactical upgrade kit. Modifications must be made by a gunsmith.

Instructions

    • 1

Add a memory groove grip safety to the Colt series 70 pistol. The grip safety alters the frame of the pistol; it offers a raised surface area to help the shooter depress the tactical safety and ensure positive disengagement.

    • 2

Add a tactical safety to the pistol. The tactical safety offers thinner thumb pads for an easier safety release.

    • 3

Add an extended tactical magazine catch to the Colt pistol; this modification allows quicker and easier magazine changes.

    • 4

Add a hardcore slide stop to the pistol, which offers increased accuracy and positive, last round engagement.
