Things You'll Need
Instructions
Rotate the valve at the top of the cutting torch's tank counterclockwise. Continue to rotate the tank until resistance is felt. Unscrew the gauge from the tank. Wipe off the threads on the gauge with a rough cloth. Insert the gauge back into the tank. Screw the gauge on clockwise until resistance is felt.
Unscrew the pressure gauge from the tank. Remove the paperclip. Lightly tap the side of the gauge against a work surface three times to dislodge any dust or other contaminants that might have gotten inside. Straighten a paperclip and insert one end of it into the hole in the bottom of the gauge. Rotate the end of the paperclip around the inside edges of the hole. Hold the gauge with the hole facing down and shake the gauge from side to side for 10 seconds. Screw the gauge back on the tank.
Stand the tank outside in an open space devoid of any combustible objects or an open flame, for example, the middle of your backyard on the grass. Turn the valve a half-turn clockwise to release the gas from the tank. Make a note of where the gauge̵7;s needle is positioned. Turn the tank three more turns clockwise. Not whether the gauge̵7;s needle has risen or stayed constant. Turn the valve three turns counterclockwise and note whether the needle has moved or stayed the same. Close the valve completely and make a note of whether the needle returns to its original position or stays where it is.
