How to Tie a Rosebud Knot

A rosebud knot, also known as a stopper knot, is a type of knot that is used to secure the end of a single line or rope. After tying the rosebud knot, many people cut the excess rope extending from the knot and heat the rope end with a flame. This prevents the rope from fraying and the knot from coming undone.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a "peace sign" with your nondominant hand. Then bring your middle and index finger together so they are touching. Orient your hand so the back of your hand is facing down.

    • 2

Pinch the rope between your thumb and index and middle finger on your nondominant hand. Leave about 4 to 5 inches of rope extended from where the rope is pinched.

    • 3

Wrap the extended rope around your middle and index finger four times using your dominant hand. You now have a rope coil with four separate wrappings and a small piece of rope still extended from the coil.

    • 4

Slide the rope coil off of your hand using your dominant hand. Keep the rope coil intact.

    • 5

Tuck the extended piece of rope back through the bottom of the rope coil. Pull until the knot is tight.
