How to Build an RC Foam Living Room Flyer

Micro processors combined with foam body designs allow remote control flyer enthusiasts to enjoy the freedom of flying even during the worse weather conditions. Foam living room flyers are lightweight and easy to maneuver in indoor spaces. Double your fun by designing and building your own foam model and add your personal touches in both the design and the finishing paint job. Best of all, if you crash, the cost of building another foam body is low.

Things You'll Need

Computer
Printer
2 mm wall foam
Bamboo skewers or scrap pieces of plywood
Craft glue
Contact cement
Scotch tape
Sanding paper
Electric Motor
Motor battery pack
Radio control system with batteries
Craft knife
Paint and decals

  Download and print out an airplane body design. Look for something small, or that you can scale down small enough to safely fly inside. Plan how to cut out the body. If the plans are meant for a larger model, use a copier to reduce the size. Apply the sanding paper to smooth any rough edges. Assemble the parts, according to the plans. Fortify joints with plywood. Attach parts with glue and use scotch tape to hold pieces in place while the glue dries.

  Install the motor according to manufacturer instructions. Make sure the motor is small enough to fit on your flyer without weighing it down. The manufacturer may refer to living room flyers as micro or nano flyers. Look for motors appropriate for those types of planes. Install the batteries and test that the motor responds to the controller before installation.

  Let glue dry overnight before taking the plane for a test drive. This will ensure the construction is stable and prevent damage.

  Sand any additional rough places. Paint with an acrylic paint and decal your craft according to personal preference.
