Yamaha KT100 Coil Assembly

The Yamaha KT100 is a small, two-stroke gasoline engine used in go-karts and other small-frame vehicles. One of the key components of the KT100 installation into your go-kart is the ignition coil. This is the unit that allows you to start the engine without using the pull-rope. Assembling the KT100's ignition coil requires partially dismantling the Yamaha engine.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the large black spark plug wire from the top side of the engine. Grasp the wire and pull straight up to disconnect it and reveal the spark plug.

    • 2

Loosen the hand screw on the air filter cover and remove the air filter from the engine. Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the plastic cover to the top side of the engine. Lift the plastic cover off the engine and set it aside.

    • 3

Locate the two screw holes on the bottom side of the engine. Place the ignition module onto the engine and align the two screw holes on the module with the screw holes on the engine. Mount the module to the engine with the two screws included with the ignition coil kit.

    • 4

Connect the small ignition wire protruding from the ignition coil to the small wire extending from the spark plug.

    • 5

Place the top engine cover back over the motor. Reattach the cover with its retaining Phillips screws. Position the air filter back over the carburetor and replace the single hand screw fastening the filter in place. Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
