Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure and mark four straight, 2-inch-thick tree branches or poles at 8 feet long. Cut the branches or poles to this length with a handsaw. Measure and cut another branch or pole at 10 feet long.
Measure and mark the corners of an 8-foot square on the ground with small rocks. Cross a tape measure from corner to corner to find the exact middle of the square and place a rock there. Remove each rock and dig a hole directly underneath it with a hand shovel. Make the holes 2.5 inches wide and 1 foot deep.
Stick one end of each 8-foot-long pole or branch into the four corners of the square and pack the loose dirt around them. Do the same with the 10-foot-long pole in the middle of the square. Make sure every stick is stable and does not wobble.
Measure and cut some thick cotton fabric, such as a linen sheet, to a 9-foot square. Measure 1 foot from the edge of each corner toward the middle of the square and make a mark with sewing chalk at these points.
Cut two 1/2-inch-wide holes in the corners where you marked with sewing chalk and feed the end of a 2-foot-long rope through the holes.
Cut four panels of the same kind of fabric to 8 feet wide and 7 feet high. Cut two 1/2-inch-wide holes into two corners of each panel on one 8-foot-wide end. Feed a rope through each pair of holes and tie the ends together.
Hang the panels between the poles and tie the ends of the ropes around the top of each pole to hold them in place. Drape the canopy fabric over the top of the poles and make sure the center is sitting on top of the pole in the center of the tent. Tie the ropes in the corners of the canopy around the tops of the corner poles. Enter the tent by pulling one side of a panel to the side.
