Things You'll Need
Instructions
Select a graphite rod approximately one-half inch larger in diameter than the threaded coupler you need to attach the graphite nozzle to. This will ensure you have enough of a sidewall to keep the graphite from cracking. As an example, if you want to attach the nozzle to a hose with a one-half-inch threaded coupler, select a 1-inch diameter graphite rod.
Cut the rod to a suitable length. For a nozzle, usually two or three inches will work. Cut the rod with a miter saw to keep the ends square with the length of the rod.
Secure the rod vertically in a vice and then clamp the vice to the table of your drill press with C-clamps. Center the vice directly under the drill bit you plan to use to core out the graphite rod. The smaller the drill bit, the more it will restrict the flow of fluid from the nozzle.
Drill through the length of the rod with the drill bit.
Remove the drill bit from the drill press and replace it with a drill bit that measures 20 percent smaller than the diameter of the threaded coupler.
Drill into the graphite rod one-half inch longer than as the length of the hose coupler. As an example, if the coupler on the hose is one-half inch long, drill the hole in the rod 1-inch deep.
Secure a thread tap to a tap wrench and then thread the hole you just drilled with the tap.
Place a rubber hose washer into the hole. The hose washer will help to seal the graphite nozzle against the house coupler.
Thread the nozzle onto the hose.
