Traditional Poses
The traditional pose for graduation photos is to have the student wear his cap and gown, and perhaps holding his diploma. The traditional shot captures the moment and celebrates the student's achievement. Other traditional poses include the student in formal clothing, sitting or standing and usually indoors. These photos are still used because many family members prefer the traditional poses to more artistic photos.
Hobbies and Interests
Another way to take graduation portraits is to choose items from the student̵7;s life to highlight in the photos. Take the photos while the student is wearing her uniform from a sport or dance activity. Take photos with the student̵7;s favorite piece of clothing or surrounded by her favorite books or movies. You can also take photos with the student̵7;s pets or other animals or with objects that may be important to her.
Outdoor Shots
Outdoor shots provide a more artistic appearance for graduation portraits. Choose a location that the student visited often in school, such as a favorite park or restaurant. You can also choose a garden, lake or other beautiful landscape as the backdrop for the photo. Try shooting the pictures at different times of the day for different effects. Mornings produce clear photos. Afternoons produce bright lighting. Sunset gives every photo a soft glow.
Family and Friends
Consider including other people in the photos besides the graduate. Take a group shot of all of the student̵7;s best friends from school. Take the opportunity to photograph the entire family during the momentous occasion of the graduation. The student may also want to take photos with his favorite teacher or another person who influenced his life. Perhaps the student just wants a photo of himself and his parents or another close family member.
