Make Teardrop Stains with Water
Pour a small amount of water into a container. Tint the water with a small drop of brown paint to make the stains visible and create an aged look. Dip the tip of the brush into the water and lift it out.
Hold the brush above the paper in the area where you wish to make the stain so that the tip is at least 6 inches away from the sheet. Let a drop of water fall onto the paper.
Pick up the paper and hold it in a vertical position if you want the water to run down the sheet. This creates a tail for the teardrop.
Repeat this process in other areas where you wish to create stains. Lay the paper down to dry.
Paint Teardrops
Place a drop of paint onto a palette. You may also use a material that will not absorb the paint, such as a piece of clear plastic or small piece of aluminum foil. Dip the tip of the paint brush into the paint.
Hold the paint brush straight up in the air but close to the paper. Ensure that the tip of the brush hovers above the area where you wish to paint the tear drop.
Place the tip of the paintbrush on the paper and begin to pull the brush down. Apply pressure to the brush as you pull so that the teardrop acquires an increasingly wide base.
Stop pulling the brush when the teardrop is as long and as wide as you desire. Release the pressure from the brush so the brush stands straight up on its tip. Lift the brush off the paper.
Repeat steps 2 through 4 to create more teardrops on the paper.
