Things You'll Need
Instructions
Prepare your pieces for assembly. Lay the sheets of pieces in a tray of warm soapy water to remove the mold release agent from the plastic pieces. If you̵7;re working with larger pieces, rub them gently with your fingers to make sure they are clean. Use a blow dryer to thoroughly dry each sheet of parts.
Read through the instructions carefully before getting down to work. The instructions will tell you exactly what you need to do to complete your model and it is a good idea to do a once-over before you get started. The instructions will tell you which pieces to remove from their sprues.
Remove the pieces from their sprues on an as-needed basis. Most models start with the cockpit so you will need to check the instructions to find out what pieces are needed to assemble the cockpit. When you remove the pieces, use a utility knife to gently score away the plastic. This will keep the pieces from being bent out of shape or broken.
Dry fit all the parts of your aircraft together before you apply the glue. To do this, use masking tape to secure the pieces roughly together. This will ensure that your plane has been properly assembled; once you glue the pieces, it is hard to go back and fix mistakes.
Align the pieces properly and use a small amount of glue to assemble the plane. When you are sure the aircraft looks as it should, glue the edges of the pieces together to form your plane.
Paint the model airplane as directed and apply any decals to the exterior of the aircraft. Your plane will look very realistic when you add the final details; often, these decals and painted details help set your aircraft apart from the rest so take your time to paint and apply the decals properly.
