How to Troubleshoot the Insta-Act Pump

The Insta-Act hydraulic pump can be found at the heart of many vehicles that have parts which must be raised or lowered to serve a purpose -- a snow plow or combine harvester would be a perfect example. Many problems that afflict your vehicle could have nothing to do with the Insta-Act hydraulic pump, and are connected to other issues with the vehicle. But there are certainly other problems which can affect -- or eminate from -- this unit, particularly where the hydraulics are concerned, and you should attempt to identify them.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the battery of your vehicle is fully charged if you don't get any lift or you experience electronic problems. A failure in the hydraulic lift can often be traced to the battery not having enough power to ensure the Insta-Act pump is engaged -- a lack of power which will also affect the electronics.

    • 2

Loosen the lift ram packing nut if you continue to have problems with the hydraulics. This can be fitted too tight, and you should use a wrench to loosen and then re-tighten the nut to fix the issue.

    • 3

Fill the hydraulic fluid tank to the indicator line using hydraulic fluid if the hydraulic component won̵7;t raise or raises slowly or partially.

    • 4

Contact a registered dealer or other expert if you find the unit keeps shutting down. This could indicate a motor relay or control malfunction -- or even a fault in the wiring.

    • 5

Ensure the hydraulic fluid reservoir is not filled beyond the filler plug if fluid leaks from the hydraulic system. If necessary, drain some of the hydraulic fluid before running the machine again -- the leak should be remedied. You should also visually inspect the unit for any loose components and then tighten them.

    • 6

Change hydraulic fluid if there is an excessive load on the vehicle's electrical system while using the hydraulics. This can be due to the hydraulic fluid not being correct for the outside
temperature -- in which case you should drain the tank and use the correct fluid, as indicated in the manual for your particular unit.

    • 7

Visually inspect the angle and lift ram if there is fluid leaking from those areas. Check for loose components, which allow fluid to seep out and tighten those loose components or have any broken hoses replaced.

    • 8

Have a certified expert check the wiring of your unit if a fuse blows, as this should not be considered a DIY job, according to the manufacturer.
