How to Film With a Glare When Shooting Inside

Shooting video inside when there is glare on the subject and in the background can be frustrating. You can try to control the light or change your location, but sometimes it isn't feasible and you need a way to work around it. By using a different kind of filter on top of your video camera's lens, you can cut down on the amount of glare and the bad effects it can normally have on interior-shot video.

Remove any other lens filters on top of your video camera or loosen the filter threading collar, if your camera has one, by unscrewing it until you can remove it. Some filters will screw into a collar around the camera's lens while others can simply snap into place.

Install the polarizing filter on your video camera by following the installation method specified by the filter and your camera's filter installation method.

    • 3

Power your video camera on and aim it at an area that's reflecting light or may be saturated with light indoors. Look through the viewfinder and make any necessary adjustments to the video's brightness and contrast levels. While the difference may not be entirely visible through the viewfinder, you will notice a reduction in glare when viewing the raw video footage that you recorded.
