How to Build Foam Model Airplane Wings

Model planes that are made from foam are lightweight so they could fly gracefully through the air. However, to get lift airplane requires suitable wings. To make the foam wings for a model airplane requires a template. You can find designs online or a template can be drawn to your own specifications. The foam will then need to be cut to the correct size and shape.

  • Felt tip marker
  • Clamp
  • Hot wire
  • Electric carving knife

      Draw a template for your foam airplane wings on a piece of paper. Cut the pattern from the paper. A common wingspan for a foam airplane is 24 inches.

      Place the pattern of one wing on the foam board. Trace the shape of the wing onto the foam board with the felt-tip marker. Repeat this step to trace the shape of the other wing.

      Secure the foam board to the workbench or a table with a clamp.

      Cut the shape of the wing from the foam board using a hot wire. If you do not have a hot wire available, you can use an electric caving knife. Repeat this process to cut the other wing.

      Sand the surface of the foam wings smooth with the sandpaper.
