How to Make Ceremony Decorations

Whether you are planning a celebration for a wedding ceremony, baby baptism, graduation or other kind of ceremony, consider making your own handmade decorations for the occasion. You do not necessarily have to be crafty for simple creations. Some decorations can be used in other functional ways after the special event as well, so keep that in mind when choosing decorations. Decorations may also double as party favors you give to guests for keepsakes.

Instructions

    • 1

Create your own table centerpieces for a wedding reception. Place glass vases on a square or circular mirror in the center of each table. Put water in vases of different sizes and place tea light candles inside the vases to make floating candles. Alternatively, use one tall glass vase in the middle of a mirror with a candle in it surrounded by votive candles.

Make a special wedding cake pedestal to display the cake at a wedding reception. Position heavy square or rectangular vases on their sides close together on a table. The cake can be placed securely on top of the vases whether it is a round or square cake with one or several tiers. The glass vases should extend a few inches beyond the bottom of the cake.

Use a section of outdoor wood lattice to decorate a space for a wedding or other type of ceremony or celebration. Spray paint the lattice white or a color that will match a color-themed event. Affix silk flowers into the lattice holes to decorate it. It creates an attractive backdrop that can be easily removed after the occasion.

Decorate a room for a graduation ceremony party by using photographs of the graduate at different ages and stages of his life. Framed photos can go on walls or on a table. Alternatively, you can have photos blown up to poster size to decorate the room in honor of the graduate. Make an autograph book using a scrapbook that you decorate with stickers. Ask party guests to sign the book with well wishes for the graduate as a keepsake.

Create your own decorations for a party after a baby baptism ceremony. Use a foam sheet to make bib decorations. Cut out a piece of foam in the shape of a bib. Add a white piece of felt with the child's name on it. Write the child's name and the date of the baptism/dedication with a marker or glitter glue pen.
