How to Install a Soundhole Pickup on an Acoustic Guitar

A guitar pickup allows a musician to transfer the sound of his guitar onto an amplifier where he can customize the tone of the frequency. Electric guitars already come equipped with one or more pickups, but an acoustic needs to be fitted with one. Various types of pickups are available, but one of the easiest to install is the sound hole pickup, which can be installed and removed with relative ease.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug an end of the pickup cord into the pickup if it isn't pre-installed. Slide the pickup under the high E string and then under the rest of the strings while positioning it over the sound hole.

    • 2

Slide the upper clamp on the pickup to the top of the sound hole. Slide the bottom clamp on the pickup to the bottom of the sound hole.

    • 3

Slide the pickup toward the guitar's neck so that it fits snug. Tighten each clamp with a screwdriver or turn it with your fingers, depending on the pickup model.

    • 4

Plug the other end of the patch cord into an amplifier. Adjust the levels on the amplifier to find the sound that you want.

    • 5

Distort the acoustic guitar sound by placing the other end of the patch cord into a distortion pedal. Connect the distortion pedal to an amplifier with another patch cord.
