How to Make a Necklace for Your Girlfriend

Making a necklace for your girlfriend could help spark your relationship and show her that you care. It could also be an affordable option when deciding on a present. You don't have to be a professional jewelry maker to light her eyes up, just take some time and care when creating your special gift. Making a necklace for the first time requires patience, but the task becomes much more expedient when you've done it at least once.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 35-inch lengths of the silk cord. Dab the ends of the cord with glue and then let it fully dry. The glue ensures the fibers stay together.

    • 2

Thread the seed bead onto the headpin, which is a pin with a wide base commonly used in crafts. Thread on the heart. Bend the head pin with round-nose pliers to a 90-degree angle. Trim off the end with the cutter pliers but leave about half an inch between the heart and the end of the headpin. Bend the headpin down and turn it with the pliers to make a loop.

    • 3

Lay the cords out together and then fold them in half. Tie the midpoint into a simple knot leaving a 1-inch loop at the end.

    • 4

Open the jump ring with the round-nose pliers. Thread it through the end of the cord at the loop and them thread through the loop on the heart and close the seal with the round-nosed pliers.

    • 5

Tie a simple knot along one of the four cord lengths, about 1 inch from the heart bead. Thread a bead onto the cord and then tie another simple knot about an inch above the bead. Thread another bead on and repeat until the side has three beads. Repeat on the opposite cord on the other side of the heart bead.

    • 6

Tie a knot on one of the middle cords between where the beads on the first cords were located. Add two beads to each middle cord. Trim off the excess cords, leaving about 1.5 inches left at each end.

    • 7

Put the two ends of the side cords together. Put on the cord tip and then glue it at the end. Squeeze the cord tips together with the round-nose pliers. Repeat on the cords on the other side.

    • 8

Place a jump ring on each cord tip by opening them with the round-nosed pliers, placing through the cord tips and then closing them with the round-nose pliers. Place a clasp on one of the jump rings.
