How to Make a Good Luck Dragon Paper Cut Out

Share in the paper cutting tradition of many lands; craft a dragon symbol. These creatures are flexible images in composition and form, so you have a lot of leverage in designing them. Draw a dragon outline of any size and shape you wish. Use thin paper for small creations, as this will greatly facilitate turning your scissors on sharp angles. "Good fortune comes to those who wait," is an old saying. Take time to snip a dragon image for yourself or as a gift and focus on great prosperity and opportunity in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a sheet of typing paper for your initial attempt at his craft. You can search for finer or textured papers as you gain expertise.

    • 2

Use a pencil to lightly draw a dragon shape. Refer to photos but do not get obsessed with exactness. Dragons are imaginary and can take many forms with various details. Basically a dragon is serpentine, so start with a swirling line.

    • 3

Form two large nostrils on the end of a dog-like snout. Create a scaly, mane going down the neck and perhaps straight through the body to the end of the tail.

    • 4

Add all other details. The legs can be patterned and attached to the body with reference to salamander photos.

    • 5

Refine your drawing -- remembering the lines you draw need to be cut -- so minimize small details within the dragon body.

    • 6

Cut the entire outline with manicure scissors. This eliminates the outside space and gives you greater freedom in cutting.

    • 7

Snip the interior, smallest areas first. Proceed to the bigger decorative features you have designed, until all your details are delineated by cutting.

    • 8

Place the cut out dragon symbol over a contrasting colored paper.

    • 9

Put a few dots of white glue on the wrong side of the cut out. The wrong side has your original pencil marks remaining along some edges of the cut lines. Spread the dots of glue with your finger, so they lay flat. Press the dragon in position. It is important to use a minimum of glue.
