How to Double Cut a Card to the Bottom of a Deck

Card tricks are often performed by forcing a card to a specific location in the deck. One of the easiest places to force a card is the bottom or top of the deck. The "double cut" is a technique that forces a card from the top of the deck to the bottom. This is usually after you have taken a card from a person during a trick. The double cut requires a lot of practice, so take your time, moving through the actions slowly and speeding up to master it.

  Place the card chosen by the spectator on the top of the deck. Place it quickly and then begin your first cut in one smooth action to hide the fact that you placed it on top of the deck.

  Hold the deck from above with your right hand while holding the bottom with your left. Place the edge of your right thumb on top of the deck.

  Pull the bottom half of the deck away with your left hand, and place it on top of the deck. Hold your right thumb in place to keep the position of the card.

  Show the deck to the audience briefly, and then make another quick cut. Keep your finger on top of the card, and then pull away all the cards underneath the card underneath your thumb with your left hand. Practice this move regularly, as you cannot leave even a single card underneath the proper card.

  Remove the edge of your thumb from the deck, and set your cards down. You will have moved the top card in the deck to the bottom without anybody noticing.
