Prepare a Portfolio
If you're interested in taking your photography to the next level, prepare a portfolio. A portfolio is intended to showcase your work. To prepare a portfolio, identify your goal and purpose, advises professional photographer Alain Briot. This will help you to curate your collection and choose the photographs that will most appeal to your audience. You can prepare an online portfolio or print your photos for a more traditional approach that may appeal to purists.
Sell Your Photos
You can sell your best photos by using your portfolio to approach galleries and potential buyers. You can also sell your photos to stock photo companies online, such as Dreamstime, Corbis Images or iStockPhoto. Sell your photos indirectly by using them as images on T-shirts, mugs and greeting cards, which you can then market. Approach publications and agencies that use the type of photos you take. For example, if you are a nature photographer who sticks close to home, your town's tourist board may be interested in purchasing some of your photos.
Keep a Photo Blog
Family and friends may be interested in the photos you take, and if you maintain a photo blog, you may get new fans as well. A photo blog can be curated or kept casual, depending on whether you want it to be an adjunct to your portfolio or not. For some photographers, photo blogs are a place to showcase their best work, while for others, they are simply a fun way to post recent photos and get feedback on them.
Create a Photo Book
It's nice to have hard copies of photographs, but difficult to organize them. For this reason, consider creating a photo book. A number of online services allow users to upload high-resolution photos and place them in a made-to-order book. The services often offer the option to add text to the photos, enabling you to turn your book into a travel memoir, recipe book or other tome depending on the content of your photographs.
