How to Repair a Treadmill Bridge Rectifier

Treadmills are a very popular device for exercising. These units provide a nice place to walk or run right inside the comfort of your own home. They use a power supply to feed a DC motor that drives the walking area of the treadmill. Sometimes the power supply can stop working properly. If the problem is traced to the bridge rectifier of the power supply, the next challenge is replacing it. The bridge rectifier is designed to convert the AC power of the home to DC power to drive the motor.

Unplug the treadmill. Use the screwdriver to remove the power supply cover of the treadmill. This is usually housed in the base portion of the treadmill. Follow the power cord to the power transformer. There will be two additional wires that will be leaving the power transformer. Follow those two wires to the bridge rectifier. The bridge rectifier is usually a square or rectangle box with "AC" and "DC" on it. If it does not have "DC," it may have "+" and "-" on it.

Make note which terminals each wire is connected to by writing it down on paper. Unplug all four wires and loosen the screw holding the rectifier in place. Pull it out and set it aside.

Set the new rectifier in place and reinstall the screw that holds it in place. Reinstall the wires per the notes you made. Reinstall the power supply cover and screw it down. Plug the treadmill back in and turn it on to test it.
