How to Make an RC Crawler

RC rock crawlers are scaled-down versions of their real-life off-roading counterparts. This makes building one a great idea for RC enthusiasts who want to get down and dirty when it comes to enjoying their favorite hobby. The fundamental controls and equipment used for RC crawlers are somewhat similar to other RC vehicles, except the suspension and body feature upgrades designed for rough terrain and other harsh off-roading conditions. First-timers usually assemble their RC crawlers from do-it-yourself kits.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the components of the RC crawler from the kit packaging and separate them into chassis, drivetrain, motor and receiver components.

    • 2

Assemble the RC crawler̵7;s front and rear axle, using a set of small wrenches. For added traction, you can lock the rear differential into place by disassembling the component and packing it with metal epoxy. Allow the component to cure overnight and reassemble it.

    • 3

Attach the suspension braces and reinforcing plates to the chassis of the RC crawler. Attach the shock absorbers and springs onto the axle, and then attach the assembly onto the suspension braces.

    • 4

Mount the RC crawler̵7;s motor, battery and receiver into the center of the chassis. Wire the electrical components according to the instructions in the RC crawler̵7;s assembly guide.

    • 5

Slip the tires onto the wheels with a slotted screwdriver. Mount the tire and wheel combo onto the axles. Connect the driveshaft to the axles and motor.

    • 6

Paint and decorate the body of the RC crawler as desired. Afterwards, mount the body over the chassis of the RC crawler. Turn on the RC crawler and the receiver used to control it. Take it for a test run.
